SMACK see that detail

Mount. Batur dua

The main dark patch is not a shadow from a cloud, it's lava rock

Ipid (the last intern) and I set out for Batur at 3am one saturday morning. We left that early to experience sunrise over the mountains. We arrived an hour to early (on Stefan's suggestion) and found ourselves freezing and wondering why the hell we listened to him. But as soon as the sky started to change in to the slightest hue of blue it all became apparent. The morning was so clear and crisp it felt like a completely different than the Bali in knew the day before.

To transition from cold starry night to warm morning sun was an experience I have never had; the change of detail was stunning.

As it became light enough, around 7am, we headed down to the lake and the alien landscape. I couldn't believe my eyes, midnight black rock with neon green grass just does not exist. But in this region they have full, year round crops growing amongst the charcoal earth. Yes, we stop in one area so I could grab a photo and we hear this rustling behind us. Out pops two bright white puppies and I lost it! We spent the next half hour debating the possibilities of taking one home. We couldn't do it and were back in Ubud for breakfast by 9am. What a damn good morning.

This is the most amazing thing ever! Ha
It's so functional and still quite beautiful. This handmade bamboo beauty cost you right around 3 dollars. I have two.

IN NATURE WE TRUST

This man spends day after day grooming these roots! He does not get paid to do this, he does it for pure satisfaction. And man do they look good.

He made me take this photo.

POCARI

Only the most amazing soda drink ever!
Yasser and I are doing a project with it, I will post more as it comes.

WE THE CHILDREN

This is a a collection of some portraits I have managed to shoot throughout my time here. Its quite hard to find the courage to shoot them but always so satisfying when I see what just happened.

Thank you Tre for reminding me to not forget the people of this beautiful country.

Goa Gaja

This is Ipid, she was the first intern at the studio and has since left. Now Yasser is here.

see the eternal beauty....

This is a beautiful temple just outside of Ubud.  It's quite amazing because its one of the only locations with a Hindu and Buddhist temple all on the same land. Historically Bali has always been ok with the sharing of religion or beliefs and only in the past 30 years political leaders have pressured locals to find their differences. No matter the case, the place is magical and so is this water. This is holy water, blessed by the gods, that will give you eternal beauty.

Drive Home

This is on the way home from western Bali, with Batur and Agung in the back drop.

Dreamland

Dreamland, yes thats really what they call it. This was the first true Bali beach I visited (with the remains of a fever and a funky belly) and was just in heaven. I had been on my bed for 2 days and had to get out so I headed for the promise land. Dreamland is in south south bali on the opposite coast of Nusa Dua. Its quite simple, there are cliffs all around and one little stretch of white sand. It was raining on the whole island that day except for here. $2 for a lounge all day and my mind was right.... well at least better.

Home delivery

I asked if I could try and deliver some. They just laughed. But really I could never be this good, 300 eggs on the head and then walk!

Wait...can you say that again?

Yep....not even Stefan can say it!

Tanah Lot

We had a special tour of the famous Tanah Lot temple on the south east coast of Bali. This is Paari and he is a priest here at the temple and not just any priest his family was one of the founding families. Its written there next to number 3.

Homemade Tiles

I just cruised by this spot one afternoon and had to stop. They press the clay with this contraption then put them out in the sun to dry.
